What did you think of our latest launch? On Tuesday we announced the Raspberry Pi Build HAT, a brand-new product that for the first time makes it easy to integrate LEGO® Technic™ motors and sensors with Raspberry Pi computers.
And two of our favourite makers, Wayne / Devscover and Ruth Amos, have already created cool things.
Wayne / Devscover built a radar robot
When the Raspberry Pi High Quality Camera was launched, Wayne turned it into a sneaky device to help him win at Scrabble. So we couldn’t wait to see what he’d do with our latest new thing.
He used his LEGO® Education SPIKE™ Prime Set to build a robot that can sense when an object gets too close and send out an alert. And he’s shared all the code on GitHub because he’s lovely.

Ruth Amos’s exploding pumpkins
Ruth Amos intended to use the Build HAT to make a LEGO brick pumpkin, but everything got out of hand.
Before we get to the “trick” part of Ruth’s build, the “treat” is that she completely smashed her first attempt at machine learning and trained her LEGO robot face to smile when presented with pictures of yummy food (treats) and frown at pictures of things like snakes (tricks).
But she couldn’t resist making some stuff blow up. That good stuff starts happening from four minutes into the video. The exploding, slime-squirting pumpkins were activated by masks of the faces of Ruth’s maker pals Colin Furze, Fran Scott, Shawn Brown and Estefannie. (All of whom have brilliant projects on their own channels, so make sure to add them to your lists.)

You might recognise her from the Kids Invent Stuff videos, in which they do perfectly normal things like building doorbells that fire popcorn at visitors and and hats that grate cheese.
